RachelTime is flying by, but so are the checkboxes on the way to our first product!
We’re well underway toward collecting and creating substantial documentation for laser safety regulations in the U.S. The FDA requests information covering all aspects of the lasers sold in any product. Our first product has THREE lasers, but I can tell you from working on it that fortunately the paperwork does not multiply. 😊 We are very serious about safety, so we are happy to jump through all the prescribed hoops to ensure that we have exercised proper caution and won’t be introducing anything too dangerous. Did you know that the FDA guidelines for lasers are 40+ years old? Sometimes being first or nearly first to do a thing means yours will be outdated first.
We’ve also started working with an industrial designer to enhance the curb appeal of our first product. It is exciting to be at this stage, where we are so close to homing in on all the final aspects. We are fast approaching our first major milestone: releasing a product!
Now when I say “fast approaching” I still mean a few months. Another 1-2 months working with the designer, creation of video and marketing material, 1-2 months getting the word out about our crowdfunding campaign, 1 month running the crowdfunding campaign, then ordering and manufacturing. I can’t wait!
We’ve also heard from a friend who teaches science to underrepresented groups and we hope to donate copies of our first product to her so we can get started on our dreams of making optical science accessible to everyone.
